Membership

1.1 Membership in the Association shall consist of three categories:

  1.  Full member – Current fees of $20 effective Aug 1 to July 31.
  2.  Junior member – Current fee of $10 effective Aug 1 to July 31
  3. Group member – Current Fee is $20 but is under review for next year. All clubs must submit a form with the demographics of their members.See the example at the end of this outline.Note:
     Players who enter a tournament and are not full members of the Association will pay a “pass” fee to enter an event. The current pass fee is $5 for a senior and $3 for a junior. All membership categories entitle the member to liability insurance. Each group will receive a certificate for club purposes.

FULL MEMBER: 19 years and over as of January first.

  1.  is eligible to represent Nova Scotia providing that he/she complies with appropriate eligibility rules.
  2.  is able to enter Open and Closed tournaments in Nova Scotia.
  3.  is able to enter National Closed tournaments providing that he/she complies with appropriate eligibility rules.
  4.  is able to hold office in the Association.
  5.  is able to vote in Association matters.

JUNIOR MEMBER: under 19 as of January first

  1. is eligible to represent Nova Scotia providing that he/she complies with appropriate eligibility rules.
  2. is able to enter Open and Closed tournaments in Nova Scotia.
  3. is able to enter National Closed tournaments providing that he/she complies with appropriate eligibility rules.
  4. is ineligible to vote in Association matters.
  5. is ineligible to hold office in the Association.

GROUP MEMBER: This is a type of membership for clubs who want to be affiliated with NSTTA for the purpose of acquiring support, receiving communications on table tennis, insuring the club members for liability and promoting table tennis to its members. The club must have a minimum of 5 members.

  1. is able to enter Regional tournaments without paying the “pass” fee.
  2. is ineligible to represent the province.
  3. is ineligible to vote in Association matters.
  4. is ineligible to hold office in the Association

NSTTA Team Selection Criteria 2026-2027

Normally, the National Championships will have a team competition in all categories listed below. It is not certain whether the Atlantic Championships will include a CA15 team competition. Hence, the criteria below apply in case the categories below will include a team competition.   

In order to compete for team Nova Scotia at the Atlantic or National Championships, a player must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident in Canada and have been a resident of Nova Scotia for 6 months.  

To be invited for team Nova Scotia: 

        A player must be a full member of the NSTTA by January 16th, 2027

         A player must compete in 4 out of the 6 NSTTA- sanctioned tournaments 

The following selection points can be obtained at NSTTA-sanctioned tournaments (tournaments meeting level two status):

1st place = 25 pts, 2nd place = 20 pts, 3rd place = 16 pts, 4th place = 12 pts, 5th place = 8 pts, 6th place = 6 pts, 7th place = 4 pts, 8th place = 2 pts.

      The following selection points can be obtained at the Nova Scotia Closed Championship:

1st place = 40 pts, 2nd = 30 pts, 3rd place = 20 pts, 4th place = 15 pts, 5th place = 10 pts, 6th place = 8 pts, 7th place = 6 pts, 8th place = 4 pts.

The present team format used at the Atlantic Championships requires at least three team members. The top three players in the senior Men’s/Women’s, JR19 Girls and Boys and CA15 Boys and Girls categories in selection points ranking at the end of the 2026-2027 season qualify to receive an invitation to the team representing Nova Scotia at the Atlantic Championships.

The present team format used at the National Championships requires at least two team members. The top two players in the senior Men’s/Women’s, JR19-, CA15- and CA13 categories in the selection points ranking at the end of the 2026-2027 season qualify to receive an invitation to the team representing Scotia at the National Championships if NSTTA decides to send that team. 

If feasible and warranted, an additional player may be added as an alternate to the teams. The NSTTA-executive will form a selection committee that will submit the final team selections to the NSTTA-executive for final approval.      

Junior Age categories:

JR19: Born in 2008 or later.

CA15: Born in 2012 or later

CA13: Born in 2014 or later

All players selected to team Nova Scotia in the Men’s, Women’s, JR19 and CA15 categories must obtain the TTCAN club-umpire certification.

ADDITIONAL SELECTION CRITERIA THAT CAN BE INVOKED BY THE NSTTA EXECUTIVE.

The Nova Scotia Table Tennis Association (NSTTA) reserves the right to replace a top four player with a player that has accumulated less selection points and, hence, deviate from the criteria above for one or more of the following reasons:

  1. A player has demonstrated a poor attitude, which has been documented by a team coach/manager or a tournament official and reported to the NSTTA-executive.
  2. A player has violated the regulations or by-laws of the NSTTA.
  3. A player suffers from a significant injury or repeated injuries.
  4. The team coach recommends a player with less selection points to better complement the team for technical, strategical or team building reasons.
